Over to France

Bonjour and thank you for stopping by. My name is Renie and this is the story of my first trip (avec mon mari) to France. We flew into Paris and then journeyed south-eastward by car, through so many beautiful villages, to arrive in Nice. It was four weeks of amazingness. We were totally smitten and our lives have been forever changed! If you would like to have a peek at what we experienced, then please read on….. And if you would like to venture further with us, as we work out our future Over to France adventures, then please read on a bit further still…

Colourful Cannes Arty Antibes

Yes, we visited Cannes today. At this time of year, with the International Film Festival just finishing up, it’s obviously been all about the glitz and the glamour. I’m pretty ignorant about such things, but it was fun to be there and see where it all goes on; where the stars of the movies have arrived to parade up that famous red carpet since 1946, adorned in their magnificent gowns or looking debonair in their tuxedos. The souvenir shop next door had snippets of festivals gone by and the walls outside the Palais des Festivals et des Congrèse also displayed photos of the stars.

Cannes seems a glamorous place, full of colour and bling. We only stayed a wee while, but long enough to marvel just a bit at the lives of the rich and famous.

Antibes, as Durelle had told us, had much more of a quaint feel about it. It certainly wasn’t lacking in colour either though and was full of artiness – as well as some pretty flash dinghies. Antibes is a resort town between Cannes and Nice on the French Riviera or “Côte d’Azur”. Its old town area is enclosed by 16th-century defensive walls. The arrow slits in these walls provide wonderfully framed peeks out to the surrounding coast.

Isn’t she wonderful….

After a day out on the two towns, it was nice to come back to our old shack overlooking the creek, hang out with our buddies and talk rubbish together.

Bonne nuit. xx

  1. Fabulous to be able to explore new places and see new sights!

I think you’ll be showing Rose that photo and asking for the same!

    1. Haha, well maybe not the purple so much. But I did think she look absolutely fabulous. There are so many people here just out-and-out flaunting what they have – even if they really don’t have it. But to me, she looked the real deal. Obviousy so comfortable in her own skin and just letting her creativity shine. That’s beautiful in my book.

  2. Hi to you both, We think you have chosen a fabulous place to stay in Villefranche-sur-mer for the last days of your time in France. It’s great that you have been able to drive (or be driven) from there to Cannes and see the “glamour world.” Thanks for the photos. It’s great that you were also able to drive from there to the resort town of Antibes. Such a picturesque place. Fabulous Photos. It will be interesting to hear what you both get up to in the next few days. Lots of love, Dad (& Mum)
