Over to France

Bonjour and thank you for stopping by. My name is Renie and this is the story of my first trip (avec mon mari) to France. We flew into Paris and then journeyed south-eastward by car, through so many beautiful villages, to arrive in Nice. It was four weeks of amazingness. We were totally smitten and our lives have been forever changed! If you would like to have a peek at what we experienced, then please read on….. And if you would like to venture further with us, as we work out our future Over to France adventures, then please read on a bit further still…

Layers of Lyon

From gripping modern-day street art to Roman artifacts that predate Christ’s time on earth – and a bit of Les Lyonnais in between. This was our experience of Lyon today.

Murals and Street Art Found in the Croix-Rousse District
Bouchon Les Lyonnais
The Basilica – Notre Dame de Fourviere
The Crypt (underneath the Basilica)
Lugdunum Roman Museum and Theatres
the roman theatres

These theatres were pretty cool. It’s a bit hard to see but there are actually two. They were built around 15BC. The largest one could house 10,000 spectators. They eventually become covered over by orchards and vineyards but were rediscovered and excavated in the 1930s. They are still used for performances. We could see preparations underway today for an uncoming event.

And this is for our Francesca Dancey Girl xxx

  1. Dear Renie & Clive, Dad and I looked up Les Mur des Canuts and reckon it’s quite remarkable. The churches over there are so old and intricate with their lovely windows that tell stories. You are seeing such amazing things. The photo of those two cafe workers – did they pose for you or was that a photo of a photo? By the way, I checked out the price of kiwifruit in the supermarket and both green and gold cost $3.50 a Kg. The weather here is cold and gloomy. There is another big deluge expected tonight. Try and soak up some sun before you come home. Thinking of you both, aroha nui, Mum (& Dad) xxxxx

    1. Hi Mum. They guys in the Bouchon did indeed pose for me! They were very nice. Only such a small crew in the kichen, for a very busy place. Yes, we can’t believe the price of NZ Kiwifruit here. Sorry about the weather there. We had a sunny day yesterday, but it is still mostly very cold. We are wearing our jackets most of the time. (I mentioned your birthdate in my next post. I hope that was ok! xxx)

  4. Bonjour Renie and Clive. Amazing photos and diary of your days in France. I don’t think it matters too much that you couldn’t get to see inside the Louvre, as you’ve seen so much other amazing art, sculptures and ancient objects. So glad you are having a good time. Love, Heather.

    1. Hi Heathy. I know, as much as it would have been one to tick off the to-do list, I feel like we are surrounded by all those things. There seems something old and amazing around every corner most of the time.
AND A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! I meant to say something about it in my last post by forgot. Love you heaps. xxx

    1. Hi Rache! Thank you. Often, as we’ve been going through our days, various things you’ve said about you travels pop into my head. Yes, so much more real to me now! (So glad of your idea to do a blog too. As much work as it is, I’m already starting to be blurry about what we’ve done. It’s so helpful to have written it as we’ve gone – and to have the photos alongside too. So worth the effort. And again so appreciate all your help in setting it up!). xxx
