Over to France

Bonjour and thank you for stopping by. My name is Renie and this is the story of my first trip (avec mon mari) to France. We flew into Paris and then journeyed south-eastward by car, through so many beautiful villages, to arrive in Nice. It was four weeks of amazingness. We were totally smitten and our lives have been forever changed! If you would like to have a peek at what we experienced, then please read on….. And if you would like to venture further with us, as we work out our future Over to France adventures, then please read on a bit further still…

Waking Up in Paris

It still feels like a dream, but this morning we really did wake up in Paris.

According to our itinerary, we should have been waking up here yesterday (that was Saturday for us). But after a mechanical fault in our plane in LA, our flight to Munich was cancelled and we had to spend Friday night at a hotel by the airport, therefore missing our scheduled flight to Paris. Then due to slightly unnerving communication from our airline (the new boarding pass for my flight to Munich was showing me as being on the waiting list) our entire Saturday was spent in LA Airport, the first few hours hanging around until we could get confirmation that Clive and I were indeed going to be able to catch the same flight to Munich, and the second half actually waiting to catch that flight. No offence Los Angeles, but I was not in the least bit sorry to leave you!

Munich Airport was a breeze in comparison, and we arrived in Paris last night, took three different trains to our wee apartment in Asnieres-Sur-Seine, found something to eat and feel asleep.

But today we began as we mean to continue…

Like this!

Followed by this….

From the top of which we were able to see this….

which was just incredible.

But seeing this darling with my very own eyes – well that was a moment I will never, ever forget.

And so we decided to take a closer look.

Thank you Julie for gifting us a trip to the very top AND a glass of champagne.

SALUT!

We spent an amazing two hours in the Eiffel Tower – it was so incredible we found it hard to leave! We then had dinner alongside the Seine River, wandered around the streets of Paris a bit more and got back to see the tower lit up. Superbe!

And to darling Sasha – joyeux 10e anniversaire ma cherie!

Hi to you both, Hope you get this reply email as I have been having some problems in trying to send you a “comment” in the box at the bottom of your messages. Unfortunately two previous replies didn’t get sent. Anyway it’s great that you have finally arrived in Paris but wow, what an incredible journey in getting there. Thanks for the terrific photos. The ones of the Eiffel Tower brings back memories of when Mum and I were there. We hope that the weather stays fine and that you have a great time seeing the sights. Love, Dad & Mum

    1. Hi Mum and Dad. Thanks for your messages. They are coming through just fine, it’s just that I’ve only now worked out how to see them! We have had such a great time so far. We got quite muddled at times, especially trying to work out the trains and tickets. But we are learning. It’s raining here this morning, but it sounds like it’s been quite bad over there weather-wise. Hope you guys are ok despite the rain. We are about to venture outside with our raincoats and make our way over to the Mount Martre area. Lots of love to you both. xxx (PS. Dad, thank you so much for helping Heather out with our blog. xx)

    1. Thanks Kita. It still feels like a dream. We are in a beautiful little place called Auxerre at the moment. The streets are like something from a story book. I keep thinking they must have been made to look like old stuff (like it would be if we saw it in NZ). But it’s actually the real deal. Am eating baguette and cheese as I type this. So unreal. Lots of love to you guys. xxx

Oh well Renie, flight cancellations and changes seem to be very much a part of travelling these days. All adds to the whole adventure in the end πŸ˜‰You two are pretty chilled!! I think the delay in LA helped you to prevent jet lag. Instead of crashing out exhausted the first day in Paris you got into it straight away!! Lovely pictures, Paris is amazing! Did you manage to get into the Louvre another day? 😘

    1. Hi Maggie. We did try the Louvre again, but unfortunately it was closed. We did get a look through a window and saw some of the sculptures. It’s an excuse to come back to Paris again one day though!

  9. Oh Rene & Clive,
Those pics up the Eiffel Tower just say it all! I know you’ve both dreamed of that moment for so long….isn’t it the most special place?? And even better at night…when it’s all twinkly! Brought back so many memories of my 50th there…I need to go back now!! Xxx

    1. Yes, so pretty at night. Although there was a man performing next to us, and he was singing Hotel California – which I really like, but it wasn’t quite the soundtrack to night-time Eiffel Tower watching that I had imagined. We had a giggle. It was really funny!! x
